Information for prospective students and applicants

The Department of Physics at the University of Alberta is a comprehensive department offering an excellent graduate education in most major fields of physics. We are proud of the contributions that our graduate students make to research and teaching. We provide graduate students with excellent research supervisors, a good selection of courses and a friendly working environment. Upon requesting and receiving a graduate assistantship, students are guaranteed a minimum level of funding through a combination of teaching and research assistantships (see the "Financial Support" pages for new MSc and PhD students) during the first 2 years of study for the MSc degree and 4 years of study for the PhD degree.

Answers to most questions you will have about applying for, and being part of, our graduate program can be found on our webpages. If you have specific questions not answered anywhere here, please do contact us. You might also find the information through our Links page, which includes links to the Faculty of Graduate Studies & Research and the International Centre.

Please check out the different Research Groups and feel free to email any potential research supervisor about his or her research program and opportunities for new graduate students in his or her research group.
